[Fiction] What we fight for.

 Originally posted at http://forum.eveuniversity.org/viewtopic.php?f=103&t=46641&p=410248#p410248

This is something I thought would be a fun and interesting for me thing to write. It's actually based on a real event. I met my girlfriend over World of Warcraft, and the first time we met we spent a weekend in a hotel in Stockholm where she lives. This is the last minutes we had together at the train station before I left with the train to go home to Denmark, translated into the EVE Universe :)

"I love you. I'll come back for you. Next time I come here, it will be permanent, okay?", Mick said to her as they were standing at the outskirts of the docking area. A tear appeared in the corner of his eye. "I promise.".
Katja looked at him and wiped the tear from his chin. "I know baby. I know. I'll think about you every day.".
She smiled at him, he could see how she was trying to keep the tears in. He hugged her, holding her tight in his arms. "I wish I never had to let go.".
"You have to. But this is not a goodbye, you know? It's just a "see you later", she said as she winked and smiled at him. "I love you with every fiber of my body, and I'll be waiting here for the day you return.". She kissed him as she patted him on the back. "You have to get going. Think of me when you're out there. I'll miss you.".
"I'll miss you too. I'm coming back as soon as this is over, I promise!", He turned around and started walking towards the maintenance bay where his Wolf class assault frigate was being checked one last time before departure.
"Wait honey, wait!". He turned around to see the love of his life come running towards him. "I want you to have this, it'll keep you safe and remind you of me, and what you're fighting for.". She placed something in his hand and he looked at it. It was the necklace she had worn on the first picture he'd seen of her. He kissed her and smiled "I'll be back before you know it.".
He felt a presence behind him. "Sir, the ship is loaded and ready.". It was the mechanic he had hired to check and maintain his frigate in the week that he had spent at the station with Katja. He turned around. "Give me a moment.".
As he turned back to face Katja all she said was "Go. I'll be here.". She had that look in her eyes again, that look of certainity and respect. Respect for what he did, and certainity that nothing would go wrong.
He nodded and smiled, turned around and started walking towards his ship with the mechanic.
"Damn, buddy. I feel sorry for ya, having to leave a girl like that behind.", the mechanic muttered to him.
"She's worth it.", he replied. "Is the ship fully prepped?", he asked.
"Yes sir, we installed the Microwarpdrive in the ship yesterday and the special delivery you requested has been loaded into the cargohold along with ordinary ammo and nanite paste. I also took the liberty of replacing your ordinary issue 200mm cannons with something a little more hightech aswell as some special ammo. You'll see for yourself once you get in the ship.". The mechanics smile almost went up to his ears.
Mick chuckled: "Can't wait to see it. As long as I can pump Republic Issue Fusion shells into those amarrian bastards I don't care what guns they come out of." .
They both laughed. "You got that right, cowboy. Good luck out there! Give 'em hell!", the mechanic yelled as he turned away and started walking towards the nearby café, leaving Mick to his ship.
"Alright big girl, let's get out of here.", he said as he looked towards the spot where he and Katja had parted ways. She was standing there waving at him. She didn't look upset, she only looked proud.
"I'm coming back for her.", he thought as he boarded his vessel.
He got into the cockpit and made a brief pre-flight check for himself before he switched on his radio and broadcasted a message to the docking command. "Docking, this is Mick Pattons of the Brutor Tribe. Requesting permission to undock a Wolf Class Assault Frigate.".
"Roger that, docking lane 3 is clear. Have a good one.". said Katja's voice on the comms unit.
Micks face went into a broad smile as he proceeded to undock his ship. "I love that girl.".
He slipped his ship out of the station and turned the ship in the direction of the first gate on his route. It was a 24 jump route all the way to the Ossogur system, his personal staging system when he was participating in warfare operations with the Minmatar Republic fleet and his own corporation, the Brutor Tribe.

Back in the station Katja recieved a call from a man who identified himself as Wikumi Pol, CEO of Brutor Tribe.
"Hello miss, do you have Mick nearby?", said a voice in the comms unit.
Katja replied "No sir, he just left the station 15 minutes ago.".
"Ah, damn that kid! Can't reach him on his comms unit.", said the voice with a heavy sigh. "Probably turned it off in flight. Again.".
"That sounds like my Mick, sir. He was in good shape and left the station in his Wolf shortly ago.".
"That's good to know, miss. I know he won't let us down, we're gonna need every man capable in the upcoming period.".
"He won't let anyone down, sir. He's a good man.".
"Roger that. I'll be expecting him. Thank you miss. Wikumi Pol out.".
The call ended.

And now for something entirely different!

So like 30 minutes after finishing my previous blogpost I recieved an evemail with a very shocking title. "Everset Dropbears is disbanding".

I will post the content of the forum thread that was linked in the evemail.

"
No joke.

The corporation is disbanding.

I could probably cite as many reasons as each of the long time members, but let me get the main points
- Lack of people management, managing assets is all fine, managin ppl is more important
- Lack of participation, members were not stepping up, fleets were run by a very small circle.
- Lack of focus, we tried to do everything at once and doing nothing good
- Lack of oversight, we recruited alot of ppl for the sake of recruiting

All this basically lead to burnouts, ppl leaving, heated discussions up to severe insults, constant whining. In short, its not fun anymore.
Major leadership is burned out, there is no indication whatsoever of potential replacements, the attack on Everset hit home that most ppl dont care/have time/have fun anymore.

With that we are pulling the plug.

We will evacuate as many assets as possible into highsec.
We currently debating what to do with that, so far the prelevant option is to make everyting to cash, give everyone an equal share and leave.
No fancy stuff, no different shares, not buying of ships like we did when liquidating D6. Plain, simple, fast handling.

I will elaborate a bit more later on of how this is going to be archived, but for now we will move out of the wormhole over the weekend.

I also will come up with more posts about what options there are for players in the future to progress and help with anything you might ask/suggest/request within reason.
"
That was... Very very unexpected to say the least. I had no idea that we had so many sour internal affairs going on. I just guess that goes to prove the content of the CEOs announcement.

I will be monitoring the situation as it escelates and ultimately I will be seeking out a new corporation to join, most likely I will look for another WH corp. I hear that ADHC is having fun in their WH-space.

Untill next time,

THE ENEMY IS UPON US! ...I think, I can't see anything.

So I woke up the 29th and did some stuff around the house, had breakfast with my girlfriend, took a shower, went to the mall, picked up some different necesities etc etc. After a few hours of just hanging out with my girlfriend around the apartment, we hopped over to our PCs and started doing the things we do at our PCs. She opened up facebook and chatted with one of her classmates, I opened up different forums, Youtube, Blogger and EVE. Nothing of interest really caught my eye untill I started reading all the new posts on our EDROP forums. The post about the idiot that had destroyed 2 capitals and stolen a 3rd one was unstickied, and a new one had taken it's place.

"EVERSET IS UNDER ATTACK!"
I almost jumped in my chair when I saw it and with lighting speed I opened up the post. There was a list of hostile ships that was spotted in our Wormhole and already 2 pages of intel and discussion going on.

I started reading through the bunch of intel, and one particular thing caught my attention. Appearently the Revelation that had gone missing was now in hostile hands and we came to the conclusion that someone must have bumped it out of the POS shields... *sigh*

Oh well, things like that happen. I logged in and it was really quiet. This was in EU timezone of course, and the hostiles had been reported as being an US Timezone corporation so that was as expected. I stuck around for a few hours and nothing happened so I logged off and played some other games, while refreshing our forums every hour and was on TS aswell so I could hear if something happened. But nothing did happen. Not a damn thing. I ended up logging off without having done anything in EVE that day except for plugging Minmatar battleship into my skillqueue (which is sort of a big thing to me, especially since I actually have the necessary support skills to make it useful, and not just jumping into and totally underflying a ship!).

Logged on the next day, 3 new pages on the intel thread. Read through them. Nothing happened. They bubbled one of our poses, and appearently unbubbled them again, aswell as jumping 3 capitals out (and possibly in again, that is unconfirmed).

The general belief in the corp however, is that the invaders are leaving again either because of other things that needs doing or because they just wanted a fight and we don't "fight fair" in EDROP.

They still have confirmed scouts in the wormhole however, so they do have the possibility of finding a way back in if they so desire, and there's nothing we can do to prevent that short of having the sheer luck to catch their scouts when they try to find the way in for the bulk of their forces. And that would take tons of luck aswell as some lucky timing and well... some more luck.

Ended up logging off the same way as the day before, with no action whatsoever.

I logged on 3 hours ago and have been chatting a bit in corp chat and reading some forums. Still no action in the wormhole. Looks like this might be another day where I simply log off without having done anything.

*sigh*
Oh well, it's still awesome being in a wormhole.

Untill next time,
